Recently I had a chance to have a phone screening round with Google for L3 software engineering position. Thanks to one of my Googler friends who referrred me.

Interview question

The interviewer initially gave me a easy question regarding processing a string that represents file path and output the file path in certain way. I coded it up after asking some clarifying questions and explained solution with an example. Then, the interviewer added a follow up question where I have to print whole file structure given some input strings. Again after some clarifying questions and describing my approach shortly I coded my solution and then finally I did a dry run on the example that interview provided. I had around 10 minutes to write code for the followup question. I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to finish coding. However I was able to finish it and interviewer was kind of satisfied with coding. Finally she said “Good luck to the interview process” and hang up the phone.

Interview Feedback

Within a week, recruiter emailed me that Google wants to move forward with next steps which basically means onsite rounds.
